YOUR BEST FOOT FORWARD!

THE iSTEP TECH SCANNING FOR FEET AT PHYSIO PLUS!

Hello Everyone! Physio Plus is pleased to provide the advanced iStep technology scanning for foot disorders. Following is to share how this technology works and the types of corrective orthoses available.

Your arch type may belong to any one of the following, namely
Low
High
Medium

This literally means that whilst walking, your foot forms an arch on the ground that is either a low arch (flat feet), medium arch (most common foot type, and considered normal), or a high arch (pes cavus).
Getting your feet scanned will identify your foot arch type and also the amount of pressure you are placing over the whole of the foot. It identifies the areas that carry an increased pressure, also highlighting the areas that do not take the weight. This scan only takes a few minutes.

The anatomical arches of your feet form a supportive base for the entire body. There are 3 arches in the foot, namely the transverse, medial and lateral longitudinal. Most of the pain in the foot is attributed to the Medial Longitudinal Arch (MLA).
Weakness or disorders of the medial longitudinal arch can cause pain and functionally unstable conditions of the foot such as pes cavus (high arch) or pes planus (flat foot). These can contribute to increased pressure areas over various parts of the foot, poor walking patterns, and eventually lead to knee pains and/or back pains.

Most structural disorders of the feet can be corrected through the use of orthotic devices, which are soft, semiflexible or rigid. These devices provide better shock absorption in the foot and provide neuro-muscular re-education for proper structural alignment so that the ideal weight-bearing position is achieved.
This means that the foot gradually learns over time to adapt to the corrective orthosis and realign itself.  The orthoses can further be augmented by teaching specific exercises to the feet to strengthen the arches and muscles attached to the foot.
Remember, your feet are always on the go and will benefit greatly from some extra cushioning, shock absorption and support.  The right footwear and foot orthotics can help you achieve proper body alignment, prevent injuries and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.

The iStep scanner is powered by 3,744 gold plated barometric sensors and 1,326 infrared LEDs and receptors. In addition to your arch type, this patented technology identifies your pressure distribution over the feet.  The scanner also provides a recommendation of the most suitable insole for your foot to adjust the pressure and alignment.

Aetrex Lynco Orthotics is widely recognized as a global leader in comfort and wellness footwear products with an aim of creating the healthiest shoes on the market today.
All Aetrex styles integrate customizing memory foam footbeds, superior Lynco arch support and soft anti-bacterial linings to create the healthiest shoes you'll ever wear. Lynco footbeds are tri-density with a molded Pedic™ core to support the arch and provide maximum comfort.

Falls Prevention Program

Working with Seniors in Falls Prevention Program Part 2 - Balance Retraining Hi All! Working with seniors is enjoyable and truly rewarding too especially as they do show remarkable improvements with mild to moderate exercise activities. We, as a team, look forward to this part of our daily work very much. Seniors have  an increased risk of falls , owing to declines in muscle strength and mass with age, reduced perception of height, and impaired balance.  As such, a major part of our programme consists of supervised strength training exercises, balance and coordination activities and gait retraining to improve strength and function. To gauge their performance and for regular evaluation of functional status and muscle strength and power differences, we use several outcome measures. Assessment scales include the Berg Balance, Functional reach, timed walk over 6 meters, the TUG (Timed Up and Go) and self-paced stair ascent tests and muscle...
