Hydrotherapy

At a Hydro session with our paeds case, little Vanessa. She has tightness of the hamstrings, calves and poor gait pattern. We are hopeful that hydrotherapy will benefit.
Here goes!

Our physios at work trying to help Vanessa stretch and use her muscles. This is her first session so she has plenty of support.

The benefits of hydro are buoyancy which helps the person to stay afloat, water can also provide resistance or assistance to movement. There are a lot of movements that you can do in the water which could be quite difficult on land. Above all, it is so relaxing :)

With noodles and having a gala time!

Physios working out as well as our other adult patients in the pool.

Physios doing resistance training in the water with another client.

Students practicing and having fun!

It's time to go home... end of session for Vanessa.....a good time was had by all. Her program looks promising, judging from feedback. See you next week Vanessa.

Falls Prevention Program

Working with Seniors in Falls Prevention Program Part 2 - Balance Retraining Hi All! Working with seniors is enjoyable and truly rewarding too especially as they do show remarkable improvements with mild to moderate exercise activities. We, as a team, look forward to this part of our daily work very much. Seniors have  an increased risk of falls , owing to declines in muscle strength and mass with age, reduced perception of height, and impaired balance.  As such, a major part of our programme consists of supervised strength training exercises, balance and coordination activities and gait retraining to improve strength and function. To gauge their performance and for regular evaluation of functional status and muscle strength and power differences, we use several outcome measures. Assessment scales include the Berg Balance, Functional reach, timed walk over 6 meters, the TUG (Timed Up and Go) and self-paced stair ascent tests and muscle...
